Dr. Humphries knew from an early age that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father and become a doctor. His younger brother had severe allergies and asthma, which prompted his interest in the specialty. Establishing Asthma and Allergy Specialists in 1987, Dr. Humphries enjoys being able to provide his patient’s with a better quality of life through proper treatment. Along with seeing children and adults with allergic rhinitis and asthma, he also, has a special interest in working with asthmatic athletes. He has treated high school, college and even professional athletes helping improve their performance by providing them with tools for controlling their disease.

Dr. Humphries was a Morehead Scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is past chairman of the North Carolina Asthma Board, has been active in asthma research, and is currently a co-investigator on a $1.8 million National Institute of Health asthma study. Throughout his career, he has personally evaluated over 25,000 patients with asthma and allergic diseases and earned the 2010 Top Docs Award. The father of 6 children, Dr. Humphries enjoys traveling, scuba diving, fishing, and doing projects on his farm.
